In recent years the trade between Ukraine and Cambodia developed unevenly. The main barriers to the development of economic cooperation are unfavorable internal conditions (low purchasing power) and a low level of political dialogue between the two countries.
According to the State Statistical Service of Ukraine in 2017 the trade turnover between Ukraine and Cambodia was the following: Ukraine's export - 361,5 thousand US dollars (35,8% of 2016 ), import - 16.5 million US dollars (111,9% of 2016). The negative trade balance of Ukraine in 2017 amounted to 16,1 million US dollars.
In January-February of 2018 Ukraine's export to Cambodia was 296,2 thousand USD (2792,5% of January-February 2017), import - 4145,0 mln.USD (160,7% of January-February 2017). The negative trade balance of Ukraine was -3848,8 mln.USD.
Ukraine exported to Cambodia mainly agricultural products and steel. Ukraine imported from Cambodia garments, footwear, textiles, paints and varnishes.
According to the Embassy, the prospective area of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries could be if the Ukrainian enterprises take part in the design, construction and mounting of public, energy, industrial and transport facilities in Cambodia, supply of the construction equipment, trucks, machinery etc.
The participation in the deployment of energy infrastructure in Cambodia can be of particular interest for the Ukrainian entrepreneurs, including the joint projects with the Vietnamese companies.
