In preparing for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Society the delegation of the Society headed by its Chairman O.V.Shlapak visited the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vietnam on October 5-12, 2015.
The visit was organized with the assistance of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The program of the visit included the meetings with the Vietnamese colleagues in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh cities, a trip to the Thac Mo hydro power station on the Be river in Binh Phuoc province. The station was constructed in a close cooperation with the Ukrainian side.
The main activity of the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Society is to promote the development and strengthening of mutual understanding, trust and friendship between peoples of Ukraine and Vietnam. It has actively fostered business contacts, cultural and educational exchanges, assistance to the Vietnamese students in Ukraine and joint research activities between two countries. In difficult times after the war it was engaged in sending Ukrainian specialists to Vietnam for recovery assistance.
During the meeting with the leaders of the Hanoi People’s Committee the letter from the Mayor of Kyiv V.V.Klychko with the proposal to establish sister-cities relationships between the capitals of two countries was conveyed. The meeting at the Chamber of Trade and Commerce of Vietnam was focused on promoting the Ukraine-Vietnam trade and economic cooperation. The representatives of the Society visited the Hanoi-Amsterdam School and presented souvenirs from Ukrainian schoolchildren. During the meeting with the professors, lecturers and students at the Hanoi Foreign Trade University the information about reforms in Ukraine was delivered by the Chairman of the Society delegation. The agreement was reached to establish direct contacts between educational establishments of two countries.
Friendship tree planting ceremony was held and attended by the representatives of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the top management of Vingroup corporation.
There was also a meeting with the Friendship Associastion of Khanh Hoa province.
For significant contribution to the development of friendly relations between Ukraine and Vietnam the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Society and its former Chairman M.M.Gavrylenko were awarded with the Orders of Friendship of Vietnam.

The VUFO and the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Society later inked a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the period of 2015-2019 and a cooperation roadmap for 2016.
