Recognition of Ukraine: December 27, 1991.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: January 23, 1992.
In 1993, the Embassy of Vietnam began its activities in Ukraine.
In 1997, the Embassy of Ukraine in Vietnam started its work.
Political relations
In 1996, Ukraine and Vietnam concluded the Agreement on the Principles of Relations and Cooperation.
Since 2011, relations of comprehensive partnership and cooperation have been established between the two countries.
Ukrainian delegations of the highest levels visited Vietnam:
in 2010 – the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
in 1996 and 2011 – the President of Ukraine,
in 2012 – the Prime Minister of Ukraine,
in 2012 and 2017 – the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
In 2022, after the start of the full-scale Russian military aggression against Ukraine, a telephone conversation and later a meeting in Cambodia between the foreign ministers took place.
In 2000, the President of Vietnam visited Ukraine, and in 2003 – the Chairman of the National Assembly. The Prime Minister of Vietnam visited Ukraine in 1994 and 2011.
The following high-level joint bodies operate in the area of sector cooperation between Ukraine and Vietnam:
– Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation;
– Subcommittee on scientific and technical cooperation;
– Intergovernmental Coordination Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation.
Vietnam's position on Russian military aggression against Ukraine
Vietnam advocates the need to observe the principles of the supremacy of international law, the UN Charter and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states in interstate relations.
In May 2022, the Government of Vietnam allocated aid in the amount of 500,000 USD to provide for humanitarian needs in Ukraine.
