Prior to the outset of Russia’s full-scale aggression, trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Vietnam was marked by steady growth in bilateral trade volumes, with a traditionally negative trade balance for Ukraine.

Russia’s full-scale military aggression and the blockade of Ukrainian ports had an adverse impact on bilateral trade and economic relations, causing disruptions to export–import supply chains. In 2021, bilateral trade turnover reached USD 855 million; in 2022 it declined sharply by 51%, to USD 416 million.

According to data published by the State Customs Service of Ukraine for 2023, bilateral trade turnover between Ukraine and Vietnam amounted to USD 593 million. Ukraine’s exports were USD 69 million and imports USD 524 million. Ukraine’s negative trade balance stood at USD 455 million. In 2023, bilateral trade turnover increased by 42.5% compared to 2022.

According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in 2024 bilateral trade turnover exceeded the pre-war level and amounted to USD 884 million (49% higher than the previous year): exports were USD 264 million and imports USD 620 million. Ukraine’s negative trade balance amounted to USD 356 million.

In 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached a record USD 1,161 million, which is 31% higher than USD 884 million in 2024. At the same time, Ukraine’s exports amounted to USD 227 million, which is 15% lower than in 2024. Imports recorded substantial growth—nearly 50%—reaching USD 934 million. As a result of declining exports and a sharp increase in imports, the negative trade balance widened to USD 707 million, compared to USD 356 million in 2024.
