Ukraine and Vietnam will work on projects in the field of geology and mineral processing
24 September 2020 16:27

On September 24, 2020, representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in Vietnam visited the Vietnamese Institute of Atomic Energy VINATOM and held talks with leading Vietnamese scientists. The Vietnamese side was led by Chang Chi Thanh, president of the institute. On behalf of the Embassy, the meeting was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in Vietnam Nataliya Zhynkina and the Third Secretary Vladyslav Pereverziev. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Vietnam in the field of mining and processing of rare-earth metals, as well as prospects for the introduction of Ukrainian technologies and joint projects, including the establishment of an analytical laboratory for titanium raw materials and titanium products.

Nataliya Zhynkina and Chan Chi Thanh discussed the implementation of joint projects in the field of aluminate and bauxite processing and the possibility of participation of Ukrainian enterprises in the disposal of "red sludge" of alumina production in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese side stressed its interest in purchasing Ukrainian measuring equipment and other equipment in the field of nuclear technology, taking into account the price competitiveness of Ukrainian products and with the prospect of its further promotion in the markets of Southeast Asia.

Vietnamese scientists, among other things, were interested in Ukraine’s experience in the field of water resources management, primarily large river waters, in the context of construction and operation of electricity generation facilities.

The parties paid special attention to the issues of professional training and exchange of experience in the field of nuclear energy, both in the framework of training on government scholarships and in the context of short-term training by Ukrainian energy specialists.

The Vietnamese Institute of Atomic Energy VINATOM began operations in 1963. Today, the Institute consists of ten departments and three research institutes. The institute has a low-power research reactor in Dalat, which is used for scientific purposes and for the production of medicines. Prior to the introduction of a temporary moratorium on nuclear power plant construction in Vietnam in 2016, the institute was developing advisory materials for a nuclear power plant construction project in Ninh Thuan Province.
